Okay, I'm going to expose myself as an idiot. Please keep your laughter to a minimum. This is my first "quilt." I decided that I didn't need instructions or to take any measurements. I could rely on my own brain (which it turns out is quite small). The quilt was originally much larger with a large and fairly even purple border. However, I sewed the batting to the wrong side of the fabric. Again, no instructions here. Relying on my own brainpower. So, instead of pulling out stitches around the entire thing, I just cut. Then I sewed the remaining parts together, the right way. I decided not to bother with basting and so the fabric bunched up a lot and I just kept going. Isn't it beautiful? Surely, a one of a kind. Maybe I could open up a disaster quilts etsy shop...

ReplyDeleteFirst quilts are always something of an experiment. Think of your 'interesting' construction method as a 'feature' not a 'mistake.' The kids will love it to death because Mommy made it for them. (And quilt show judges rarely make house calls.) FBmsg me if you want fabric and/or tips for your next one.

ReplyDeleteYou will learn so much if you just keep winging it :) That is typically how I do everything in life. Sometimes the lessons are hard, but you will always remember them!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on staying home! My family made that choice almost 2 years ago despite the fact that my hubby has returned to college. It is tough, but so worth it :)
