Anybody have any ideas what to do with this hair? I don't wash it much. I try to brush it out, but that is REALLY hard. I could brush it for three hours and not be done. My husband doesn't know much about hair and all of his family lives in Nigeria and Germany. It's just me. A white girl with dreadlocks, lol. I've thought about letting the girls hair lock up, but I'd rather not....for now.
I'm sorry I can't be of any help but her hair sure is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't brush Kainoa's hair (he's mixed too--though his hair is big soft curls). I wash it and put Fructise leave in conditioner in it. When I did brush it once, it was massive and kind of hilarious looking and he hated it. So I never brush it at all. In the mornings, I spray it down with water and put Fructise mousse in it and it looks fine. Granted, he's a boy so it's a bit different from a girl's. My daughter's hair is more like mine than my husband's, for now. The consistency seems to be changing (she's almost 4) and getting curlier in the back. I condition it pretty regularly with the same conditioner and brush it out for braids or ponytails. Sadly, I can never just leave it alone like my son's because hers looks crazy and messy when it's just down--like I don't care enough to do anything. I don't know how much this helps. Being white with mixed kids can be a challenge, hair-wise...I'm glad they ours got a good combination of my hair and my husband's. Easier to manage, especially since I don't know a THING about how to manage straight up black hair. Dreds sound like a good idea, though.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, that is gorgeous hair! I want hair like that, having flat fine hair myself.
ReplyDeleteI am no help either, but I must say my boys have long blond wavy hair, and it's all matted and locked up in the back, and I don't do much about it. :)
I bet if you go to a salon that specializes in her type of hair, they would have some suggestions.
ReplyDeleteMy son has extremely curly hair, he is 18 yo and never combs it. He washes it, and finger combs it, then air dries it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy 7 yo and 4 yo both have had a go at dreads (they're white with straight-ish hair) and eventually decided to cut it short and grow it back out, but I have to say, I love dreads on a kiddo. I think they are adorable :) and I think your daughter's hair is beautiful as is too. My friend whose daughter has similar hair often sweeps it all up into a high ponytail. It seems to hide any mini-locks that may have developed, and looks cute.
ReplyDeletemy oldest daughter wants "big hair," meaning no pony tails. I cut out a bunch of dreads about a month ago, but THEY'RE BACK, bwah hah hah! Also, my older daughter cut my younger daughter's hair for me in the middle of the night. So that's taken care of for a while. Well, thanks for all of the advice. Laughing Librarian, I def have to brush. No finger combing here. I would never get my hand out.
ReplyDeleteCUT IT!
ReplyDeleteGo to Whole Foods and buy Kinky Curly, its great for her texture of hair and it will last til the next washing.
ReplyDeleteHey have you tried Carol's Daughter or a homemade/generic equivalent? If you go to her site she has some ideas. Also, have you tried two strand twists (Youtube). I use various CD products on my kids' hair (all have different textures). I use the CD Monoi series on mine and Eden's and sometimes the boys. I use loc butter, mimosa hair honey, tui hair smoothies, etc. There are also a few books on natural hair care and a few on homemade, organic hair products (amazon). Ms. Carol is expensive, but a little can go a long way.
ReplyDeleteHer hair is beautiful!
haven't tried any of it, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have mixed hair just like that the best thing to do as to not damage the hair is to finger comb it with some all natural hair products. Nothing with parabans synthetic dyes or alcohols ! Whole foods carry a natures gate product that is awesome and pretty natural. Then to get the hair not to frizz out when it dries and to also maintain its moisture throughout the day finger comb some leave in conditioner and or light gel making sure to reach all the pieces! Best of luck
ReplyDeleteOhhh and one more thing no need to spend lots of money on all those products! ! An 8oz bottle can cost 20 30 dollars when all mixed hair wants to soak into its pours is something natural like coconut butter shea butter jojoba oil gel made from flaxseed with a few drops of essential oil for smell .. the flaxseed gel has no odor though.. just my thoughts! :)
