So today I've been a little annoyed with places around town that call themselves farmer's markets or advertise that they sell local and then sell produce from California, South America, etc....and the stuff is not labeled. Most people are not farmers and probably don't know when something is in season. If a place says what's in season is probably local, this is misleading. I badly want to know where my food comes from and one wouldn't think it would be this hard. All I can do is keep growing more of my own. However, we can't really plant much more here until late July or so. Therefore, I'm going to relax, drink a beer, and switch to sewing mode. I am watching a good friend of mine's son tomorrow night, and in exchange, she is giving me a sewing machine! The first thing I'm going to make are the pants to the left. They are from a book called Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner that I saw on Soulemama's blog. I bought it because I loved the quilt (shown above). I hardly have any fabric so I'll start with pants. Okay, I'm in a better mood already.
the Farmer's market by Lakewood on Saturdays is about as close as you can get for local produce/meat. But it's expensive.....I think a sewing machine is a fair trade for babysitting (holy crap! hahaha). I got your sauces...
ReplyDeleteI have the meat/dairy figured out, it's the produce. Where is Lakewood? Where I go now is fine, good prices, I just need to ask where each item is from. Kind of like Georgia's. Almost all the produce is from far away with one table of local. very misleading. i told them and they did start labeling better...
