On Saturday I took Eaden and Taven (Naia didn't want to come because of the loud guns) out to Homestead Heritage Day. Homestead Heritage Day is basically 19th century Texas history come to life.
On Sunday, we went over to my parents to try out some of the Texas homestead recipes in a little history/recipe book I bought for $3.
We made butter first and then tried some Johnny cakes.
Let's just say they weren't a huge hit with the girls (I tried to pass them off as pancakes with maple syrup).
Next we made dolls out of corn cobs.
After a fun day with Grandma we headed home so that I could prepare a good ole' pioneer dinner.
Unlike the Johnny Cakes, dinner was a huge success!
How fun!! Your kids are gorgeous! It was my first time making butter just the other day, too :)

Your kiddos are beautiful. Love those smiles! And dinner looks great.

ReplyDeleteHi there, Thanks for the follow! I have very much enjoyed looking through your blog! I especially like your post about pretty things. My mum told me long ago, after number three I think, to stop wanting pretty things, as with lots of children about the place, it was unlikely to happen! (it was about then we ditched carpets too!) I love to make pretty things if I get the time, but thats rare enough nowadays too.
ReplyDeleteYou look like you had a great time at your heritage day, what a fab event! the recipes look cool too, laughed a lot at the "pancakes", have tried that trick myself too with a similar recipe, no go! Also want to say, your children have the most gorgeous smiles! Must be hard to get cross if they smile like that!
