Midnight Special
Before Two Camp was constructed, Huddie Ledbetter (better known as Lead Belly) was incarcerated in the wooden structures at the Imperial Prison Farm, until his pardon in 1925. The train from Houston to San Antonio would arrive in Sugar Land at about midnight with its light shining brightly. Lead Belly's words to "Midnight Special" reflected on his experience in Sugar Land.
If you're ever down in Houston
Boy, you better walk right
And you better not squabble
And you better not fight
Bason and Brock will arrest you
Payton and Boone will take you down
You can bet your bottom dollar
That you're Sugar Land bound
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the light on me
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the ever-lovin' light on me
Boy, you better walk right
And you better not squabble
And you better not fight
Bason and Brock will arrest you
Payton and Boone will take you down
You can bet your bottom dollar
That you're Sugar Land bound
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the light on me
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the ever-lovin' light on me
The kids got to dig up dinosaurs!
What a cool museum. We love ourselves some Leadbelly around here!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you take your kids to the museums. Our parents did so too and I greatly appreciate it till now.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is funny how the lady is holding the skeleton on her lap like it's her pet! :-)
Great pictures! You find all kinds of fun places to visit. And I loved the mini history/music lesson- I didn't know this was an option in Houston! Next time we're down that way visiting my family we might have to check it out!
ReplyDeletelooks like you had the run of the place!
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool museum for kids. Especially the youngers. Small yet lots to do.
ReplyDeleteThe kids look like they had so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteLiving in the country has its perks, but its things like this that make me wish we lived in a city. We just don't have anything as fantastic as this around here.
I would love to come and hang out with you for a week or two! You find the most wonderful places to take your children. I hope you have a fabulous weekend! xx
