Poor bird

The girls and I were looking at this baby bluejay that fell out of its nest into our yard. We scared it and it started hopping away fast. Unfortunately, it hopped through a hole in the fence and the neighbor's dog killed it within about 5 seconds. Its poor parents witnessed the event. Well, the girls learned a little lesson about life and death...city style...Now Eaden's talking about how butterflies kill and eat tiny puppies. Maybe we need a few more lessons.

Hamilton Pool

Here is a better picture of Hamilton Pool, where we went last weekend. My brother (the photographer) took it.

Crafting

We started off with a little embroidery and then I decided to make these books from Bird and Little Bird: books!
After Eaden wrote the alphabet and her numbers in hers I thought it would be neat to have her make one every month or so and we can see how she progresses (see when her "j" suddenly turns around, for example). They will be a neat keepsake for her when she's older.

Naia's new shirt...updated.

Made some changes to Naia's shirt so it would fit a little better.

Afternoon snack

Mmmm, nothing better than honey and bread.....except honey, bread, and beer.

Naia's new shirt

I sewed this shirt for Naia today by hand while Taven napped and we waited for the bread to rise. I had no pattern and just cut out pieces by eye. The neck was way too big. I added that polka dotted part, but it's still a little big. Room to grow! I have nothing against sewing machines, I just don't have one. Waiting for one to fall into my lap. The main part of the shirt is an old baby blanket I bought at Goodwill a while back. Polka dots are scraps.
