Eaden: When are we going camping?
Me: In a few weeks. I can set up the tent in the backyard though.
Eaden (in her excited voice): Yes! And I have an idea!
Me: What's that?
Eaden: We could have mushrooms! And s'mores! (rubbing her belly) S'mores are yummy in my tummy!

Titmouse Club

It was our first time at Titmouse Club today. It's a program they offer at the Audubon Society for 2 1/2-5 years old. The theme today was nocturnal animals. At first the girls were painfully shy and holding on to my leg. That drives me nuts! After a while though, when the lady running the program brought out a frog to touch, the girls loosened up.

There was a craft.

Then a little nature walk. Taven was a major pain the entire time. Note to self: remember snacks next time!

The kids fed the fish.

By this time, the girls were over their shyness and were right at the front chatting up a storm.

Next, we headed back to the cabin to explore.

The kids made a friend (especially Eaden).

You put your hand in there. No you put your hand in there. Let's do it together. No you first and then me.

As we were leaving Eaden was talking to this boy (Zach) and the boy said that he had invisible dinosaurs (and that all dinosaurs were invisible) and that they were herbivores. Here's the conversation:
Zach: All dinosaurs are invisible. Mine are herbivores.
Eaden: I like Brachiosaurus! I watch Dino Dan! I have a Dino Dan video!
Zach: Dino Dan! Can I come over and watch it with you?
Eaden: Yeah sure! What's your call number?

Preschool Changes for October

Well we were already taking an "unschooling" approach to preschool in the sense that the girls learn everywhere and all of the time. In September I tried to work around some themes and I had certain planned activities for certain days. I would say we stuck to everything fairly well. However, for October we are going to take even more of an unschooling approach. Eaden is very into reptiles and amphibians, birds, bugs, dinosaurs, etc. I had planned to focus on pirates and trees for October, but I'm pretty sure she's just not going to be into it. She actually picked the topic of pirates a while back, but she isn't interested anymore. It's better, it seems, to just plan as we go based on current interests. She will listen to me read about different "creatures" forever and so I am going to capitalize on this fascination of hers while it lasts. We will continue to learn about captivity and conservation (making good use of our zoo membership before it expires), animal behaviors and characteristics, and dinosaurs. She is absorbing this stuff like a sponge. No reason to switch it up and bore her with pirates and trees. She will also watch nature documentaries, such as Planet Earth, and since this entertains me as well, I love it! We also find other various documentaries online at Top Documentary Films.

Our focus will be on these few books that Eaden keeps picking up

Great Weather!

The high today is 86! We spent the entire late morning/early afternoon out front making "fall changes" books, reading, riding bikes/scooters, playing with chalk, waving to neighbors, and looking up at the trees/sky. So GREAT to be comfortable outside! Please stay cooler weather!!!!

Bird in the House!

FYI-I'm starting to blog primarily for my family, but I'm going to keep the blog public. Don't get the wrong idea! I LOVE you! Just saying, if my posts get really random or I just post random pics with no words, that's why. Also, I might update 4 times on Saturday and not at all during the week. I love having people visit, it's just that I'm a little tired of blogging. I want my family (that is not on facebook, lol) to be able to keep up with us....and I love my readers too much to really say goodbye.

So, this morning we had a bird visit us in the house! We woke up to super cool temps (for us) and opened all the windows and doors. I guess we confused some creatures.

The little guy stayed long enough for Eaden to identify and draw him in her nature journal.
